Utah County deserves a County Clerk dedicated to the Rule of Law. 

This is the public comment I gave during the Utah County Board of Canvassers Meeting on November 18, 2025:

Elections are the foundation of self-government. They must be free and fair, accessible and secure. They must be administered competently. And they must be subject to the rule of law.

In recent social media posts, Utah County Clerk Aaron Davidson suggested that he would not implement the newly designated congressional district maps because he feels they are unconstitutional. He is, of course, welcome to publicly share his opinion of the ruling both as an individual and as a public official.

But determination of constitutionality is NOT within his authority as a County Clerk. Contrary to his statement, refusing to implement a map is NOT among the duties of his office; duties that he swore to discharge with fidelity. His attitude represents a direct threat to the rule of law and to the rights of Utah County voters. This premeditated dereliction of duty, even if made in jest, should be loudly condemned by officers in Utah County Government and by his fellow County Clerks.  

Make no mistake: the fiasco surrounding the incorrect instructions sent with general election ballots was a direct result of Davidson’s continued misinterpretation and selective execution of election law and administrative rules. Time and again, he has demonstrated a pattern of making decisions based on what he feels is right, rather than on what is clearly written in statute. This is the very definition of the rule of men over the rule of law.

Our public institutions are strong, but not indestructible. I have faith that the career service professionals of Utah County’s Election Division will continue to discharge the duties of their offices with fidelity. Next year, all voters, not just Republican Party Delegates, will have the opportunity to hold Aaron Davidson accountable and to elect his replacement.
